Included in this lot is a 23 card complete set of the 1938 W711-1 Cincinnati Reds Team Issue. It should be noted that there is a similar team set from 1939 that is almost identical except for references to events in 1938. 22 of these cards are definitively traced to 1938 due to these differences while one card (Grissom) is a 1939 due to the mention of 1938 on the reverse. Grissom is in both sets, but the card used to fill out this set actually dates to 1939.
Featuring notable players such as Ernie Lombardi and Johnny Vandermeer alongside their other Reds teammates, this set colorfully displays many players in batting and fielding shots while the balance is posed portrait style. These cards are printed on thin stock which has resulted in minor creasing or wrinkling to a handful of cards. Overall the set averages VG to VG-EX with some lower due to creases or reverse paper loss. An extremely presentable set, evenly matched in condition.
